Next week we will have agents from Sadler-Cavarette Literary joining us for our weekly chat. More information to come, but if you have any questions you'd like answered, please leave them in the comments section below. We'll pull from the comments section next week, and try to make sure everyone gets a chance to have their question answered.

I'm so glad to see you all are still going strong! My schedule recently is such that I am never home on Thursday evenings and I can't join the chats—but I do miss you all and I hope to join in again sometime soon!
ReplyDelete-m.
We miss seeing and hearing from you as well. Please drop in when you can. The door is always open.
DeleteMiss ya like crazy, girl! Hopefully you can pop in sooner than later. :)
DeleteOoh, I'm looking forward to it. Here's my question:
ReplyDeleteAs an illustrator + author/illustrator would I need to seek an agency who handles both or just have 1 for each?
Thanks, Marcus!
DeleteTo participate in the Guest Chatters is that something I connect with online?
ReplyDeleteSheralyn, if you post a few questions in the comments here...we can relay them to the agents. To view the chat while it's happening, join us on Twitter using the hashtag #kidlitart this Thursday 10/24 at 9pm EST. :D
DeleteHI everyone! *Waves*
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering what the agents think about longer picture-storybooks and if they think the trend from barely any words, to a little more text heavy will ever come back?
As agents, what do (and don't?!) you look for in both authors and illustrators for your agency? This coming from an illustrator who isn't a part of an agency, but would maybe want to be a part of one at some point in her career. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for setting this up, guys! What are the biggest "Dont's" for an illustrator submitting to agencies? And the biggest "Do's" as well.
ReplyDeleteAs an illustrator just starting out would you recommend that an illustrator get an agent at the beginning of their career or later on?
ReplyDeleteI have two questions for our guests:
ReplyDelete1. Say I have a dummy I'm looking to submit for consideration, should I have additional manuscripts, ideas to show if I want representation? How detailed should those book ideas./stories be? Do I need to go as far as a whole other dummy or will a rough outline and sketches be plenty?
2. Say I want to do more than book illustration, should I find an agent that can represent my book/magazine etc. interests and another that can take care of other areas like licensing and merchandising, film rights etc.? Or should I find an agent or agency that can do it all?
Thanks for putting doing a chat session on agents, I've been considering seeking representation and while the children's writers and illustrators market book has helped, having a live agent to answer questions is really helpful!
